Movement Workshops & Fitness Classes by Louisa

Move right, stay fit!

Are you a woman over the age of 40?

Do you want to lose weight, look leaner, feel stronger and more nimble?

1. You find difficult to keep up with the exercise routines you were used to in your 20's or 30's, because you don't have the same amount of stamina nowadays.

2. Your gym's fitness classes or virtual classes are led by and geared toward the younger populations--those in their 20s and 30s, and you simply can't keep up with their pace!

3. You have chronic pain that hinders your progress or stops you from getting started.

4. You believe that it's no longer possible to get into a better shape or become more flexible and stronger at your age.

If you want to get into a fitness routine but stop short of starting because of any of the above reasons, then I might have something just right for you.

I am Louisa, and I am a certified health coach, postural alignment specialist and barre fitness instructor.

My "Back" Story

At 48, I am a "midlifer" who once lost hope of my physical well-being due to the chronic pain I suffered from. In my mid-30s, I had a frozen back and chronic pain in various parts of my body. I tried everything but nothing helped, until I stumbled upon a system of exercises that seemingly required so little effort but did so much that I was cured of my chronic back pain. What did the "trick" was consistent work on a daily basis. I didn't skip a day for two years straight.

At about the same time, I also changed my diet to minimize systemic inflammation. When I adopted a diet that matched my genetic attributes, the inflammations in my joints and muscles subsided.

Of course, these improvements were countered by the aging process. While my diet and my exercise routines have helped me stay younger than I would otherwise have looked and felt, I realized that the older I get, the more consistently I have to keep my body moving to counter the effects of aging and degeneration.

At the same time, it is important to strike a balance so that you don't overdo it. At times when I had unrealistic expectations of my own physical ability and flexibility, my body talked back to me in the form of pain or injuries.

So now, as I am approaching the fifth decade of my life, I am using a balanced approach to keep my body nimble, strong and fit, while taking care of chronic pain and preventing further degeneration.

Do you share the same struggle?

If you are on a similar journey as me, you can count on me to understand your plight as well as desire to feel and look better.

Designed for the midlifer and paced accordingly, I have a number of different movement and fitness programs that may be just right for you.

I always start gently and want to help you deal with pain first, and then move on to more rigorous exercises. I strongly encourage you to take the movement workshops or postural alignment classes to set yourself up for better and injury-free barre workout classes.

1. Pain-Free Movement Workshops - 40 minutes

These workshops can either be one-on-one or done in small groups. Each one will focus on a particular body part so that you will learn a set of exercises you can do at home, on your own, until your acute pain disappears.

2. Straighten-Up Your Posture - 40 minutes

This is a set of exercise routines for daily maintenance. They will help you correct your posture so that any skeletal-muscular imbalance can be addressed. This in turn will help you reduce your chronic pain.

3. "Stretch & Tone" Barre Fitness - 40 minutes

This class is ideal for beginners to barre fitness. The movements and pace are slow and controlled, minimizing risk and allowing for quick and easy modifications for people with injuries.

Some of the exercises are done on a chair, while others are done on the floor as well as on a barre (or a kitchen counter if you don't have a barre). If you were previously injured and have exhausted your physical therapy sessions, you can continue strengthening your muscles through this "Stretch & Tone" class. It is ideal for the rehabilitation phase.

This class is also suitable for people who have a history of stroke, vertigo/balance disorder, epilepsy, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, amputations, joint replacements, sprains, strains, tears, breaks, neck issues, spine/back issues and injuries, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, heart disease, asthma, obesity, diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and seniors.

4."Feel Fab & Burn Fat" Barre Fitness - 40 minutes

This is an easy-to-follow barre fitness class geared toward women aged 40 and above. We start with a slow, full body warmup, followed up a faster-pace warmup. Then we do exercises for the upper body, lower body and the core that will help you strengthen your muscles, get your heart rates up and burn fat. Each class will teach you a few exercises for each body section instead of all of the available exercises. After each set of exercise, we'll do a quick stretch. This way, you won't feel overwhelmed. We finish the class with a cool-down stretch.
